Real Dangers of Paranormal Investigation

Many people out there are ignorant of the dangers involved in this field. Mostly due to the sterilized product placed by the media. Also, I belong to several groups here on myspace and several of the moderators treat this like a hobby, they encourage children to "Hunt Demons", without warning them of the real horrors that await those who specialize as Demonologists, not explaining that they are making themselves and their loved ones targets and soon become the hunted instead of the hunters.
This applies to the hobbyists out there, reading a few books buying the box set of Ghost Hunters and getting a tape recorder and camera does not a paranormal investigator make!

If shows like Ghost Hunters, GHI or Paranormal State are to be responsible they need to show these dangers. Don't get me worng, I watch these shows, they do have some entertainment value, but they are neglecting the responsiblity to, at the very least, put up a warning at the beginning and at each commercial break during the shows.

Below is a reprint of a bulletin written by Dan, The founder of The Southern California Paranormal Research Society (SoCalPRS), the Paranormal Group to which I belong.

He is trying to get the word out there that this field of research can and is dangerous, it can lead to personal , financial, mental, and physical ruin to those who do not take actions to protect themselves, and even then there is no guarantee for the saftey of the investigator or their loved ones and pets.

Respectfully,

John J Fowler, MA. XT. PCT.

This goes along with our Dangers of the Paranormal campaign, being responsible, especially when kids are involved. We have blogged about this before on our SOCALPRS site.

We know of or have been contacted by at least 3 production companies looking for kids 8-18 who ghost hunt for new pilots or projects. We have refused to help them, instead focusing our efforts ..ing groups creating Jr. training Programs for underage kids. None of them can go on a real investigation until they are 18 years old, but let's train them in the protocols, methodologies, give them hands on experience with the tools and equipments and promote responsibility and respect between the human and spirit world. Show these kids the reality of a real investigation where you sit for ten hours in a room where nothing happens, or have them watch 8 hours of video footage where nothing happens. That is real, not TV.

Let's be responsible. Contact these companies and let them know that we won't let them exploit kids.

What will happen when 5 shows involving kids who ghost hunt hit the airwaves? Every kid will be running out, not to emulate their adult ghost hunting television heroes, but to emulate their classmates?

This is not responsible. If you've been contacted by one of these production companies, let them know it is not responsible to exploit kids like this. Have investigating be for adults only. Some kid on one of these shows will be hurt and scarred for life. Guaranteed........Read the orginal post below, watch the video at the bottom of this bulletin and repost.

Hey John!

I'm SO GLAD you brought this up!

A while back I went into a cyber fist-fight with some people, who consider themselves “paranormal investigators and have knowledge of this field” but every single time I rebut their non-sense statements they came up with more and more immature answers about the paranormal.

I will not mention names or groups, however, since you brought this up I feel compelled to tell my story of what happened:

A paranormal group invited me to one of their blogs. It had to do with a new paranormal TV show with children conducting paranormal investigations. Before this, I watched a short sneak preview of a “coming soon” show TV commercial and I was amazed how adults take advantage of children and the money-hungry parents to sign on the dotted lines on legal documents to exploit these kids!

I went back and forth with some ladies that obviously had to have an interest on that show since they kept going after me and others against having children on such shows! It was NASTY! That's all I have to say. In the end, these ladies were banned from that blog because they refused to accept the truth and the suggestions of all of us.

One of their replies was that since there were going to show it on Cartoon Networks that it was fine. Then, I went after them! My sarcastic remark to them was that of course, since they were going to show that on the Cartoon Networks that I'm sure only “Cartoon Networks” spirits and ghost would appear to those kids! Obviously, these ladies have NO CLUE as to what is to be involved in the paranormal, let alone be an investigator. We don't allow any kid to be involved in anything paranormal, period! They are not mature enough to be able to handle such thing, especially something that they can't “see” for themselves. I've been touched, pushed, and everything in between and I can tell you is not pick nick! One of the rules we have before conducting an investigation is that if any of the investigators is sick, weak, or doesn't feel comfortable that they must not enter the premises at all and leave (if they're in their homes we suggest they stay and rest). We've had cases where supposedly a “skeptic” have been attacked by something evil, or unknown, scratched and even felt the pain when it happened. Needless to say that he is no longer a “skeptic.”

Exposing and exploiting children in the paranormal is wrong and every adult must demand ethical actions against those who don't care. In the same manner in which someone witnesses a parent physically or psychologically abusing a child, that witness must come forward and report it as ABUSE.

Thanks again John!

John , Thanks for posting this ! I have also been contacted by these production companies , and I actually submitted my daughter (Age 17)only due to her advanced maturity and religious faith, to one who was a well know producer, But with that submission , I also submitted pretty much the same info that you have posted here and advised them of the very real dangers they face as kids and the possiblility of harm that could come to the kids as a result of the efforts they were trying to bring about, and that they should be VERY careful in their selection of potential members to film this type of show.
Needless to say, I was immediately put on the Blacklist , so to speak, because they just dont want to hear it !

LOL. I just now noticed that Paul had submitted a comment to this above ! He is a good friend and my Lead Investigator who has dealt with a Demonic presence first hand as well !

This is not something children should be involved in!! In fact, if you want my opinion there are some adults who should not be involved with the paranormal. Everyone should read Father Malachi Martin's book entitled "Hostage To The Devil". (He was one of the foremost experts on exorcisms.)This book will give one a good jolt of reality as to what can and does happen!! It was only a matter of time before some hair-brain idiot got the idea for a "Kiddie Show" involving this.Also... I just love the ones who have one experience and suddenly they're an expert!!! I have had various experiences all my life and no way am I an expert!!! I watch some of the shows but the one I like the best is the "A Haunting" on one of the Discovery channels. I'm not that big a fan of the SCI-Fi "GHOST HUNTERS" nor a couple of the others. I would for sure not watch any program exploiting kids and the paranormal!! There are too many dangerous things and a child would be a prime target for an entity. It isn't the "Ghost & Mrs Muir" or "Topper"....not even Sci-Fi's "Ghost Hunters".

I fully agree with this warning information. I know that niether my daughter nor I are ready to "go into the foe"; but I also know that we are both able to see/feel the unseen, that they present themselves to us. We, especially my daughter, would love more info or to meet with someone to expand our understanding of our gifts. My daughter,15, is thinking of college/university education dealing with parapsycology and the paranormal. Love to hear from you.

John , I was wondering if you have a type of "Lesson Plan" or anything already put together ? I think that it would be a great idea for all the Ethical Groups left out there who are not influenced by the media to put something together in their own community in order to educate them, and show them kids just how dangerous "Ghost Hunting " can be !
Now that Halloween is right around the corner, it may be the prime time to do it !
I am here for you an any capacity I can be , let me know how I can spread the word !

I am going to direct you to Dan MeWhinney, He is the founder of SoCalPRS, and also the originator and driving force behind this movement, you can reach him through our web sites, www.socalprs.com or www.dangersoftheparanormal.com

Dan has a few speaking engagements set up, and if you visit the dangers website, you can look at some of the interviews from leading investigators and demonologists on the subject.
