When is a dream not a dream? When you don't look like yourself in the dream.
The subconscious mind uses dreams to get information through to the conscious self. Many times, it will bring a past life experience through. Let me give you an example from my own experience.
When I was about 10 years old, I had the following dream:
A group of three men were walking through a forest. The men were dressed in buckskin suits like Davy Crocket in the movies. They were each carrying a flintlock rife and each had a different type of hat on. These men were adults, probably in their late 20s or early 30s. I recognized one of them to be myself. This man had a beard, the rifle, a flintlock pistol and large knife in his belt.
The group came to a clearing in the forest. As they got into the middle of the clearing, there was some awful screaming and yelling. Running towards this group of men were a half dozen Indians with tomahawks and knives drawn.
It was as if the three men were on autopilot. Rifles were methodically cocked and shouldered. Three shots rang out and two of the attackers fell. The other four continued their assault.
It was clear that there was no time to reload the rifles. Two of the men grimly reached for the large knives on their belts but the person that was me, reached for the pistol as the four attackers closed in. I thought it odd in the dream that I reached for the pistol with my left hand as I'm right handed in the present life. By this point in the dream, I was more conscious and when I reached for the handle of the pistol, my physical hand moved. When my fingers touch my empty palm, I woke up instantly like turning on a switch. I had really, really needed that pistol and when it wasn't there, it shocked me awake.
The dream ended at that point but I felt the group had survived the attack. So 10 year old me was a grown man with a beard!
These sorts of dreams can be triggered by books, TV or movies. How many of you have had dreams where you are not who you are in the present life?
